Documentary Screening: Pictures From a Hiroshima Schoolyard
About This Event
This event features a screening of Pictures from a Hiroshima Schoolyard, a documentary that tells the story of an exchange of letters and artwork between a church in Washington, DC, and an elementary school in Hiroshima after World War II. The film explores the history of that relationship, focusing on a collection of beautiful drawings created by Japanese schoolchildren in 1948, three years after the atomic bombing. The documentary captures how these children, despite surviving immense trauma, expressed hope and joy through their art. The screening will be followed by a discussion with director Bryan Reichhardt and producer Masako Sawada. Attendees are invited to bring a dish to share for a potluck at 6:30 PM.
